From what i can tell, it has two activation zones, each with their own zoom settings. The sprite is actually meant to be placed in the ground. (Turn the grid on for this next part and get your calculator out.)

The zone on the left is a rectangle whose corners are tiles at (sprite.x - nybble6,sprite.y - nybble7) and (sprite.x - nybble10 - 1,sprite,y - 1) where "sprite.x" is the x position of the sprite and "sprite.y" is the y position.
The zone on the right is a rectange with corners (sprite.x + nybbleA,sprite.y - nybble7) and (sprite.x + nybble6 - 1,sprite,y - 1). If nybble6 is 0, then both rectangles will extend away from the sprite infinitely. If nybble7 is 0, both rectangles will occupy every y coordinate. Keep in mind that the y coordinate decreases as you move upwards.

When mario enters the zone on the left, the width of the view will become (((nybble8 * F) + nybble9) mod 32) tiles wide.
When mario enters the zone on the right, the width of the view will become (((nybbleA * F) + nybbleB) mod 32) tiles wide.

The tricky part is the fact that nybble A is used in calculating both the positions of the zones and the width of the view on the right, so having a view wider than 15 tiles can affect your zone placement in weird ways, creating a "dead zone" directly above the sprite.

It sounds complicated, but it has simple applications. For example, if u want the zoom to be a certain number of tiles wide whenever mario is to the left of the sprite and a certain number of tiles wide when he is on top of or to the right of it, then you would place the sprite in the top layer of the ground and use the following values. Set the zone width and height to 0 for infinite range and set the zoom left and zoom right to the desired values.
